Animal Organizations
Dog Obedience Club of Las Cruces Inc.: Non-profit organization holds dog obedience classes for the general public. Call 527-3983.

Safe Haven Animal Sanctuary: Non-profit organization provides shelter for abandoned animals until they are placed in new homes. Animals may remain at SHAS as long as necessary. Call 527-4544.

Picacho Gun Club: Holds frequent competitive shootings, open to the public, on the Butterfield Trail Shooting Range, 12 miles west of Las Cruces north of I-10 (Corralitos Exit). West Mesa Flying Association: Non-profit flying club based at Las Cruces International Airport. Its licensed and student pilot members jointly own one Cessna 150, two Cessna 172s and one Cessna 182. Meetings are held the first Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. Call 526-6440.

Big Band of the Rio Grande: Rehearses at 7 p.m. Wednesdays at NMSU Music Center Band Room.

Big Band Seniors: Meet every Thursday from 8 to 10:30 p.m. at the Elks Club for ballroom dancing. Also has special holiday events. 527-1752.

Las Cruces Symphony Association: A non-profit organization that generates funds, public interest and support for the Las Cruces Symphony at NMSU. The symphony is made up of 80-90 professional and amateur musicians under the direction of Lonnie Klein. Call 646-3709.

Mesilla Valley Concert Band: A group of more than 80 musicians from all walks of life who enjoy making music. Under the direction of Dr. William Clark, NMSU music department head and John Schutz, fine arts co-ordinator for Las Cruces district, presents concerts throughout the year.
